The Lord’s Prayer: Approaching God

But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed. (Luke 5:16)

One of those days Jesus went out to a mountainside to pray, and spent the night praying to God. (Luke 6:12)

At daybreak, Jesus went out to a solitary place. (Luke 4:42)

About eight days after Jesus said this, he took Peter, John and James with him and went up onto a mountain to pray. (Luke 9:28)

One day Jesus was praying in a certain place. When he finished, one of his disciples said to him, “Lord, teach us to pray…” (Luke 11:1)

“‘Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
    on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts,
    as we also have forgiven our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation,
    but deliver us from the evil one.'” (Matthew 6:9-13)

“‘I remember the devotion of your youth,
    how as a bride you loved me
and followed me through the wilderness.” (Jeremiah 2:2)

“My people have committed two sins:
They have forsaken me,
    the spring of living water,
and have dug their own cisterns,
    broken cisterns that cannot hold water.” (Jeremiah 2:13)

“Your wickedness will punish you;
    your backsliding will rebuke you.” (Jeremiah 2:19)

“I thought you would call me ‘Father’
    and not turn away from following me.
But like a woman unfaithful to her husband,
    so you, Israel, have been unfaithful to me,”
declares the Lord.” (Jeremiah 3:19-20)

“Return, faithless people;
    I will cure you of backsliding.”

“Yes, we will come to you,
    for you are the Lord our God.” (Jeremiah 3:22)

“‘Return, faithless Israel,’ declares the Lord,
    ‘I will frown on you no longer,
for I am faithful,’ declares the Lord,
    ‘I will not be angry forever.'” (Jeremiah 3:12)
